Stanton Airfield is proud to announce that 17-year-old Peter Schumann of St. Paul was awarded a Private Pilot License after completing a flight test with a FAA examiner on August 5th.  "This is a significant accomplishment for a teenager" says Tom Rent, a spokesman for Stanton Airfield.

Peter began his training at Stanton late last year when he was just 16 years of age.  This Spring, with just 8 hours of flight instruction logged, he was signed off by his flight instructor, Kent Johnson, to fly solo in the Cessna 150 aircraft that Stanton uses to train new pilots.

Peter then flew an additional 32 hours in the Cessna, mainly solo,  to prepare for his flight test with the FAA examiner.  The exam itself included several hours of question and answer discussions on areas such as aerodynamics, airspace, aviation regulations, navigation, and safety.

The flight portion included demonstration of a various flying skills such as  different take-offs and landing types plus proper application of emergency procedures in flight.  "Peter passed his test on the first try, an accomplishment that is only possible if a pilot candidate is well prepared and confident in his skills" says Rent.

Peter is a student at Central High School in St. Paul.  He says he is now able to take his family and friends up to fly with him to share his enthusiasm for aviation.
