Greetings from the Friends of the Historic Carleton Airport!

We want to give you an update on the roof project. Also, we want to share the next project focus for our historic airfield and solicit your support.

First, though, we want to say thank you for all the wonderful support this year! You are making a huge difference in restoring and preserving our beloved Carleton Airport, (Stanton Airfield)!

The flat roof replacement project is complete! There are NO LEAKS! No more catch pans in the hallway! No more staining ceiling tiles! More good news, John Quilling found a new work crew who did the job for $10K under the budget. So, we have approximately $10K available to seed the next projects!

The next 3 priorities for Friends are to support the remaining building integrity issues, replacing/restoring the maintenance shop windows and support for grounds maintenance. The funding target is again $25,000 to be raised this year and in 2021.

We are already supporting building integrity with an intense focus eliminating water intrusion. In addition, we must preserve the 1942 concrete block construction which is deteriorating in spots around the building, particularly on the north facing walls.

Replacing the Maintenance shop windows is another priority project. These six windows are all deteriorated. This project gives us the opportunity to return the Maintenance shop to its 1942 appearance, much taller windows with much better technology.

Another part of the Friends mission is to preserve and restore the grounds and runways. The current tractor-based equipment is used for both grass mowing and snow removal. It is in need of replacement.

The airport Board of Directors is currently exploring the options for replacement. Recommendations will be presented in December. Together, Friends has made great progress! Together we are insuring the future of the Historic Carleton Airport, i.e. Stanton Airfield. We ask again for your continuing support!
